Project Scope

Located in the heart of South Hadley, Massachusetts, you will see the beautiful Art Building on the campus of Mount Holyoke College. Founded in 1837, Mount Holyoke presented a great challenge for Supreme in trying to preserve a very historical look on this roof replacement. After an initial roof inspection, we noted the condition of the pre-existing EPDM roof system, interior walls and the architectural details of the building. The 7,500 sq. ft. roof included a lot of mechanical equipment and penetrations, which Supreme re-flashed during the project.

On the pre-existing roof system, the customer consistently dealt with leaks in different areas of the roofing system and exhausted its serviceable roof life, prompting a roof replacement. The timeline for this project from beginning to completion was six months, but the actual removal and replacement of the roofing system took place much faster, in six weeks.

After a complete tear-off down to the structural concrete deck, we installed a Siplast modified bitumen roof system that included a 20-year NDL manufacturer warranty. When it came down to selecting the appropriate roofing system for this education building, Mount Holyoke wanted to ensure that they were putting on a roof that would stand the test of time and confidently protect the contents of the building. Instead of a single ply membrane they decided to go with a multiple ply modified bitumen roofing system with a proven 30-year track record.

On all pipes, penetrations and mechanical equipment, Supreme re-flashed them with Siplast Parapro PMMA liquid applied resin. Additionally, we re-installed the previously placed Kee Guard safety rails that were set aside at the beginning of the project, with Siplast Paratread underneath the base plates.

In the end, this roof replacement project was completed on-time, on-budget, and allowed us to preserve the historical character of the building for many years to come.
