McKinney (TX) Roof Recover - 2021
Project Scope
This 730,000 sq ft roof recover project took place at a large data center north of TX-121 in McKinney, Texas, that needed to be well protected throughout the project. This marked the second time that we had roofed this building after originally installing a Soprema roofing system back in 1999. As a result of the positive experience from the last roof, Supreme Roofing again installed another Soprema roofing system in this roof recover project.
The previous roof was in decent shape from an appearance standpoint, but the roof had suffered some severe hail damage from a couple years ago that had punctured several areas of the roof to the point of needing to replace the entire roof.

Project Scope
This 730,000 sq ft roof recover project took place at a large data center north of TX-121 in McKinney, Texas, that needed to be well protected throughout the project. This marked the second time that we had roofed this building after originally installing a Soprema roofing system back in 1999. As a result of the positive experience from the last roof, Supreme Roofing again installed another Soprema roofing system in this roof recover project.
The previous roof was in decent shape from an appearance standpoint, but the roof had suffered some severe hail damage from a couple years ago that had punctured several areas of the roof to the point of needing to replace the entire roof.
We ended up replacing a little over 700 sq ft of wet insulation in performing the roof recover. We installed a ½ inch Soprema Dexcell coverboard adhered down and went with a mopped down Soprema Elastophene Sanded 2.2 modified bitumen base sheet. As the final layer, we mopped down a Soprema Elastophene LS FR GR modified bitumen cap sheet with Type IV hot asphalt per the manufacturer’s specifications.
Along the northeast section of the roof, it had a solar array panel that we had to account for in our roof recover strategy. We coordinated and worked closely with a secondary contractor to move those aside and let us roof underneath it. Then, Supreme placed some sacrificial Soprema Soprawalk walkpads beneath it prior to our secondary contractor reinstalling the solar array back in its exact location.
Typical of all data centers, this facility also had extensive lightning protection installed all across the roof that had to be worked around throughout the project. To ensure the safety of the building during the project, we were unable to remove the lighting protection completely, to roof beneath it. We had to work around the system without full disconnect, and once complete, we coordinated with our secondary contractor to come back to a recertification on the system.
Looking back on this project, it was really rewarding to work with one of our customers for the second time in 2020 after roofing the data center facility in 1999. Repeat customers are so valuable to the Supreme Roofing team, and when we can circle back with our customers like this, it is extremely rewarding for the hard-working people of the Supreme Roofing team.
